At the post game press conference, attended by primarily Thai reporters, questions were answered by Luxemburgo in Portuguese and then translated into Thai. Should, as expected, Thailand meet Vietnam in the final it will bring full circle the job that Thailand's English coach Peter Withe was hired to do. Withe came on board in 1998 following Thailand's disgraceful showing against Indonesia in that years Tiger Cup. Both squads tried to lose the match so they wouldn't have to face Vietnam in the semifinal in Hanoi.

Sports Notes Feature - Thailand's FAT Suspend Coach Peter Withe - September 2003
Reasons given for the suspension were Withe, 52, had poor results against the UAE (United Arab Emirates) in Olympic qualifying matches. Thailand lost 4-1 in Dubai and could only manage a 1-1 draw in Bangkok. The results were also said to have upset fans and sponsors.
