Communology and Klausner Technologies Sign Patent License Agreement on Visual Voicemail “One-Stop VVM”: License for the European VVM patent and technical implementation from a single source
COLOGNE, Germany -- (BUSINESS WIRE) Wednesday October 14, 2009 Communology, a specialist in mobile communications client software, recently signed a patent license agreement with US patent and technology company Klausner Technologies. The agreement allows Communology to provide European wireless operators not only with Visual Voicemail software clients and technical implementation, but also with an inclusive patent license under the Klausner EU Visual Voicemail patents. Thanks to its easy-to-use user interface, Visual Voicemail has revolutionized the way people handle their voicemail. With Communology’s new “One-Stop VVM”, mobile communications companies will now be able to quickly and efficiently enhance their voicemail offerings for the premium-customer segment as well as across the entire product line. Klausner Technologies currently has 24 Visual Voicemail patent licensees worldwide, including major international mobile operators such as Deutsche Telekom, which just now is unveiling its VVM services. Klausner Visual Voicemail licensees include other major mobile operators, cable/VOIP providers, telcos and device manufacturers as well as other types of providers of Visual Voicemail services. Judah Klausner, founder and CEO of Klausner Technologies and the inventor of Visual Voicemail, is also the original inventor of the PDA and electronic organizer. The “contacts” feature included in every cell phone worldwide is based on his US Patent 4,117,542. Already a recognized player in the now burgeoning Visual Voicemail market (Communology is the implementer and client-software provider of T-Mobile Germany’s MailboxPro service), Communology was the logical choice as a “One-Stop VVM” partner for Klausner Technologies in Europe. Quick time to market The “One-Stop VVM” deal between Communology and Klausner Technologies offers mobile communications companies a number of important advantages. They will now be able to implement individually branded, user-friendly Visual Voicemail services from one source, enabling them to significantly reduce time to market. “I am convinced that with Communology, we have found a partner able to expedite the market penetration of Visual Voicemail in Europe. Communology has already gained an excellent reputation as a quality driven leader in application development. With its various products and projects, the company has proven that it is able to fully satisfy the robust demands required by mobile communications companies with respect to their consumer applications,” said Judah Klausner, CEO of Klausner Technologies. “In the past few months, we have been experiencing a surge of interest for VVM in the mobile communications industry. Now that we have the opportunity to offer our clients and professional services in a single package with the VVM patent user licenses, we will dramatically simplify the implementation and ease to market. Mobile communications companies can now offer this popular value-added service much more quickly,” commented Thomas Kähler, CEO at Communology. One-Stop VVM The new one-stop, full-range VVM offer from Communology includes * On-device applications -quality-controlled client software with convenient user interfaces for a range of Symbian and Windows Mobile devices -Android and Java clients currently under development * Professional services -integration into voicemail servers, including interoperability tests and embedding in existing systems for billing, provisioning and reporting -adaptation to the look and feel of the service provider -implementation of customer-specific features * VVM Patent License -Communology will include the necessary Klausner European Visual Voicemail patent license in any one of 16 European countries. Visual Voicemail offers a convenient visual user interface designed to facilitate the way in which people handle their voice mail. Listening to and managing the messages is done directly on the device; a call back can be activated at the touch of a button. In contrast to a network-based, conventional voicemail box, users can now decide which voicemail message they want to listen to first and whether and for how long they want to store the message, similar to the way they deal with text messaging and e-mail. Klausner Technologies holds the basic patent on Visual Voicemail with its 25 patents worldwide and it currently has 24 Visual Voicemail patent licensees in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Communology (Cologne, Germany) operates worldwide as a specialist in rich-media mobile communication applications. The company develops sophisticated mobile client software for individual customer requirements and a broad range of platforms such as Android, Java, Symbian and Windows Mobile. The company also provides professional services including the integration of mobile applications into service provisioning infrastructures, as well as test environments and services for quality assurance of software components in mobile devices.
