Espinoza Paz Earns Songwriter of the Year Crown

Leading U.S. music rights organization Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) held its 17th annual Latin Music Awards tonight at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Juanes received the BMI President’s Award; Espinoza Paz claimed his third consecutive Songwriter of the Year title; “Te Presumo” earned Song of the Year honors for writer Hussein Barreras and publisher LGA Music Publishing; and Editora Arpa Musical garnered its third consecutive Publisher of the Year win. Hosted by BMI President & CEO Del Bryant and Delia Orjuela, BMI Vice President, Latin Music, the black-tie ceremony also saluted the writers and publishers of the past year’s 50 most-performed Latin songs on U.S. radio and television.

The BMI President’s Award is presented on unique occasions when an individual or group has distinctly and profoundly influenced the entertainment industry. In receiving the BMI President’s Award, Juanes joins a small but elite list of past honorees that includes Emilio and Gloria Estefan, Willie Nelson, Pete Townsend, and 2009 recipient Taylor Swift.

Juanes is redefining superstardom. Award-winning songs including “Fijate Bien,” “Es Por Ti,” “A Dios Le Pido,” “La Camisa Negra,” “Lo Que Me Gusta a Mi,” “Nada Valgo Sin Tu Amor,” “Fotografia,” and “Me Enamora” convey poignant emotion that transcends borders. The ceremony also featured the presentation of the BMI Foundation's seventh annual peermusic Latin Scholarship to Samuel Genao.
