In
a surprise move our January Sports Notes column praising KaKa for not
selling out for money given his higher principals and standards leaped
to the top spot after only holding down the 4th position last month.
You could say it was a delayed reaction. Guus Hiddink Play Russian Roulette
retained the second spot from last month's ratings. SCOLARI GIVEN POISON
PILL rocketed to 3rd after missing the list last month.

SPORTS
NOTES & VIDEO BEAT RULE
The
Top 10 ratings for February took the top spot but we are not going to
credit it as such this month. Why? Well we're going to play the Rupert
Murdoch game of television scheduling and just say it's a secret and
leave it at that.
In a surprise move our January Sports Notes column praising
KaKa for not selling out for money given his higher principals
and standards leaped to the top spot after only holding down the 4th
position last month. You could say it was a delayed reaction. Guus
Hiddink Plays Russian Roulette retained the second spot from last
month's ratings. SCOLARI GIVEN POISON PILL rocketed to 3rd after
missing the list last month.
Overall we question the integrity of International football
which we feel is focused primarily on power, ego and money. The firing
of Scolari, the hiring of Hiddink and the lack of support and the childish
bickering from Chelsea players all factored into our analysis and opinions.
In a surprise entry our Sports Notes column from January
2006 SEA Games $#!T Hits The Fan leaped into the 8th spot. That column
pretty much describes the sorry state of Cambodian football with the
focus being what effect gambling has on the game in Southeast Asia.
It was at that time several Vietnamese players were arrested for fixing
football matches.
The irony being that the Cambodian Football Federation
went on to have gambling concerns sponsor their Premiere League. What
followed were more scandals regarding the under 17 squads accused of
fixing matches. Recently Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen closed all
of the Cambo Six football gambling business citing that they caused
domestic violence, theft and robbery as reported in the February 25th
issue of the Cambodia Daily.
Several years ago portions of the gambling revenues from
these businesses were supposed to go towards supporting Cambodia's football
programs where national team players were being paid only $20 a month.
If it's a mess your looking for….THIS IS IT.
Part 2 of our 2008 YEAR IN REVIEW column ranked fourth
thus moving up one spot.
Our television coverage aka our Video Beat columns took
five of the Top 10 spots 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10. The Grammy Award coverage
was our fastest rise in taking the fifth position followed by the Amazing
Race Season 14 notched the 10th spot thus qualifying as a fast riser.
The Grammy's being dull was our focus in that column with
Rihanna taking the spotlight after being a no show due to a bust up
(pun intended) with her boyfriend.
That column also features American Idol's new judge Kara
DioGuardi's conflict with a contestant we deemed the Bikini Girl. It
was down and dirty but all survived and the show now goes on with DioGuardi
and without the Bikini Girl. Let us bow our heads and pray. Other highlights
of the Video Beat columns were the return of the Amazing race USA edition
and the Celebrity Apprentice Final. A thread about this column is that
there is a relationship with the winner of the Celebrity Apprentice
and Simon Cowell. What is it? Read on…
As we noted last month when press releases make an impact
in the ratings we will not include them in our Top 10 but will mention
them in the body of the column. Last month the NBA had three that made
such an impact and they continue to do so. This month Entertainment
made the greatest upward thrust in the ratings.
The three
stories that qualified are:
1. Van
Morrison’s "Astral Weeks: Live At The Hollywood Bowl"
2. Robert
Riggs Award Winning CBS & ABC Television Journalist
3. Public
Television Rocks!”
For a change of pace we are highlighting an archive story.
Given that the World Baseball Classic is in progress we are featuring
our Mike Piazza column from 1998.
TOP
SECTIONS VISITED
International football/SOCCER moved up to the first position
from third in our most visited sections thus reclaiming the position
that it has dominated since we have published our Top 10 ratings.
Our Television section moved up fours spots from 6th
to 2nd but was outdone by the Entertainment section which made the greatest
leap forward by gaining seven spots from 10th to 3rd.
The NBA returned to the list by taking the fourth spot.
After failing to make the list in February it did manage to rank 5th
in our January listings. Our Business section also reentered the list
taking the 6th spot after failing to do so in our February ratings after
ranking 2nd in January.
Our Phnom Penh section fell from first to seventh and
American Idol dropped one spot to eighth. Sports Notes also dropped
one spot from eighth to ninth and the Lakers reentered the list by locking
down the 10th spot. BIT (Business Internet Technology) ranked 11th.
For our French language readers the NBA MAX section fell to 12th place.

Quarter April to June -
January, 2009
Part 2 - What was hot for the quarter? Luiz Filepe Scolari
dominated the quarter taking the top story prize when he announced
that it was he and not Ronaldo who was moving on and taking
the mangers post at Chelsea. Former Beatle Ringo Starr defying
all odds (particularly mine) as he went on tour at the ripe old
age of 67. David Cook won the American Idol title in somewhat
of a shocker as runner-up David Archuleta was perceived to be
the winner prior to the votes being tallied. Talk show host Larry
King continues to be one of our top stories of interest...
